Current Obstacles

There is not enough awareness about Pouhala Marsh. I didn't know a lot about the marsh until I started doing this research project on it. This project has been such an eye-opener that I feel I should give others a chance to learn more about Oahu and its protected areas.

There is always a need for more volunteers to care for the marsh. There are a lot of invasives that need removing and there aren't enough native species to out plant the invasive. Plants can't move themselves so more people should be getting dirty outdoors for not only helping our environment but enhancing one's knowledge about where they live and just to get a fun experience of being in the outdoors.

Effective Strategies

Some effective strategies to get through obstacles like low awareness should be creating programs that educate more school students about the wildlife sanctuaries on Oahu. There could be school clubs that get information about restoration outings and more kids should join organizations that help our environment. Also information should be spread to all students, not just those who are in a certain club or organization, the information about the outside should be available to everyone.
Implemented Solutions

Some basic implemented solutions have been how Pouhala Marsh has been taking different school groups in their restoration project to spread awareness. There are only some schools that visit Pouhala Marsh though, and I feel that there should be more schools going to different wildlife sanctuaries. There is also YES Futures which is definitely helping to spread awareness to a large audience about what is going on in the outside world.
